The cornea is usually round. An astigmatic cornea is oblong, or football shaped. This results in a condition that generally causes eyestrain, headaches, and blurry vision. It may not affect both eyes, and is sometimes coupled with other impairments such as nearsightedness or farsightedness.
What can be done to correct it?
Ophthalmic lenses - in the form of glasses or contacts - can be perscribed to correct astigmatism. Seeing your eyecare professional regularly is the best way to monitor this condition and keep it in check.
